Wentworth Country Music Festival

I hope the ute is having a great time at the festival today. I left her in the safe hands of Noel and Cheryl, but I'm missing my baby already!

Broken Hill - start of the Polio Ute Relay

Great to be in the centre of Broken Hill for the start of the Polio Ute Relay

Rotarians for both the Broken Hill Rotary clubs were busy cooking sausages and selling the polio ute raffle tickets.

Spoke to a lovely lady in Broken hill today who bought a sausage and a raffle ticket from us because her sister has suffered from polio for years.

Royal Flying Doctors, Broken Hill

Couldn't take the ute into the Royal Flying Doctors hangar but it caused a few comments in the carpark.

Silver mining.

Time to do a little silver mining at Daydream mine. The ute had to stay topside though.

Mundi Mundi Plains

The Mundi Mundi plains were the film set for movies such as Mad Max and A Town like Alice. Not quite the right setting for our Mazda BT50 but we're raising a few eyebrows and queries.

Visited the beautiful Silverton Hotel today, which has been used for over 100 movies. Great lunch.

The Mazda BT50 Ute has arrived in Broken hill!

Yay. The Mazda BT50 has arrived in Broken Hill, ready to start the Polio Ute Relay tomorrow. Still time for a little sightseeing though.

And where is the ute now.....?

Okay....so where are we now? Can you see the Rotary sign under the new clock? And which clubs mans the pioneer museum?

Where is the Mazda BT50?

Can you work out where the Mazda BT50 is now? One of the Sunraysia clubs has a memorial garden here.

Refreshment time

Quite thirsty work driving up to Mildura, so stopped for some refreshment on the way.

So exciting to have the Mazda BT50 ute all ready for its trip to Broken Hill. DG Dick and AG Dini were on hand to speed us on our way. The double magnum of Petaluma is third prize in the raffle. Have you bought your winning ticket yet?

Rotary NEWS RELEASE

Dear Chief of Staff

Attached is the Media Release and the Rotary Polio Ute Relay Staging posts with over 30 events in 30 days and the map of the trip.

Rotary District 9520 Rotary Polio Ute Relay starts tomorrow at Broken Hill, Helping to Eradicate Polio Worldwide.

The Relay is designed to increase the awareness of polio and raise critically needed funds to eradicate this crippling disease.

The Mazda BT50, Rotary Polio Ute will travel from Broken Hill to Wentworth, then onto Mildura and into SA’s Riverland region, visiting the townships of Renmark, Loxton and Waikerie.  It will then pass through Murray Bridge, before heading to the Southern Fleurieu, followed by a number of Adelaide venues.  The Relay will conclude on Sunday 25th October, to coincide with World Polio Day.

Rotary 9520 District Governor, Dick Wilson said that this Rotary Polio Ute Relay comes at an important time in the fight to eradicate polio, which would be only the second human disease to be eradicated. Case numbers of the disease have never been lower, and only three countries (Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan) have never stopped transmission of the wild polio virus.
